Bee ~ Mama

The wifey, the mama, the nurse, the cook, the party planner, the seamstress...I take on many different roles, each one that I LOVE. I never thought I’d end up a BOY mama, but 6 boys later (Josh, Lenox, Cruz, Tegan, Ralphie, and the Boss)...here I am!!

I grew up in Southern California, a tree hugging granola incognito.  My true love for adventure and exploration began when I moved to The Netherlands at the age of 21.  A dread locked, fearless lover, I lived there for 4 years, learned to speak the language, and learned what it felt like to make another world your home.
In 2007 my life crossed paths with an old “friend” from high school and 4 months later we were engaged, and 7 months after that married. We will be celebrating 10 years this year!!!

I love cooking, but even more love eating.  An adventurous vegetarian foodie, I’m also a lover of rich pastries and piping hot coffee.  I love reality television and once upon a time (pre-children) I loved reading books.

And here’s the truth, I have all that I could have dreamed of in this life RIGHT NOW.  I am not leaving my “normal” life in search of anything. God has given me much more than I deserve.  So this God loving mama has a plan, I’m going to pray hard, close my eyes, and return to my fearless youth to create my own version of The American Dream.

Josh ~ Dad

I’m just a guy who has made plenty of mistakes (still do) but am doing my best to live my everyday for God.  I’ll be celebrating 10 years of marriage and 11 years of sobriety this year. And while my wife and children never knew the man I once was, I’m very thankful today that I had a huge eye opener November 25th 2007 that changed the course of my entire life overnight.

I’m a die hard RAIDER fan, a UCLA Bruin fan, a LAKER fan, and an all around sports lover who hasn’t been able to watch a game since my three sons were born.  Seven years ago, little by little and unknowingly, I ended up trading in my favorite sports packages and remote for running outside, pitching, throwing, or kicking a ball to Lenox, Cruz, or Tegan.

And while I enjoy my venti Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks, I equally enjoy an ICE COLD sugar free ROCK STAR.  But, just for accountability, I’m trying to give the energy drinks up.

These days I am usually found with camera around my neck and making every silly fart noise or dog growl to get one of my 5 boys to look my direction.  I’ll be in the captain’s chair for most the trip while Bee tries her best not to get us lost. So buckle up, hold on tight, and enjoy the ride.

THE BOYS

Lenox (LJ)

7 Years Old

I love sports.  That’s all you need to know.  As long as I have a ball in my hand, I’m a happy boy.  I’m very competitive and am working at being a good sport when I don’t win. Sometimes I may seem shy but it just takes me a minute to warm up.  I love pizza and hot dogs but pizza the most. I love sour patch kids, Rubio’s, and Jamba Juice. My parents recently are making me try vegetables.  So far I’m not a fan and I’d rather go to bed without dinner than try them. I’m so excited to travel the world...oh wait, my parents keep telling me, not the world, the United States!!  I’m most excited for Texas and Las Vegas but I don’t know why since I’ve never been to either.

Cruz (Cruzer)

5 Years Old

I’m Lenox and Tegan’s brother and Ralphie loves me more than anyone.  I love playing on the iPad or my Nintendo DS. I also like playing Wheel Unfortunate with my Grandpa, I don’t know why he keeps telling me I say it wrong. I’m the one with the long hair and if it were up to me, my hair would never get brushed.  I love the beach and being barefoot. I am rather carefree but have an opinion about everything. I love swimming and playing BeyBlades is my absolute favorite thing! My favorite food is fruit of any kind, refried beans, and hard boiled eggs.  I could live off beans alone.

Tegan (Teegie)

3 Years Old

My parents say I’m of a different breed.  I love to climb and jump off things. Nothing is off limits.  I love to eat and I eat ALMOST everything. When the salsa gets too hot, I just throw another chip in my mouth.  My favorite foods are blueberries, salads, ice, edamame, hot chocolate, and lollipops. I pronounce L's as Y's, so if I tell you "you're yucky", don't be mad...what I mean is "you're Lucky!" I love anything soft, especially stuffed animals, and I sometimes pretend I am a cat.  Just know, if you spontaneously hear a meow, I have turned into my alter ego...Nico the cat.  It happens without warning.  Meow

THE BEARS

Ralphie

3 Years Old

Our first Newfoundland.  The one who made us fall in love with the breed.  Somewhere, while contemplating a third child we decided it was time to add a furry member to our family.  So we did loads of research and decided on a Newfoundland. About a year later we ended up pregnant with our third child and on a plane headed to Pennsylvania to pick up our chunky baby brown bear.  Maybe because Mama held him for as long as she could (a whole couple of months) or maybe because it’s just the way he is, but he is possibly the most affectionate of ALL our boys. Always ready to cuddle or give kisses, or lick you in the face, he is a true companion.  He thrives off belly rubs and kisses!!! And he’s got the most telling eyes...some days they tell of his guilt but most days they tell us how much he loves us. He’s loves jumping in the car and going for rides.  He is Dad’s big brown shadow, a true definition of a velcro newf and can most often be found at Dad’s feet or in Cruz’s arms.

The BOSS

3 Years Old

Somehow, in my post-partum insanity, Josh convinced me that we needed a second furry babe, and what other way do you transport a 140 lb 10 month old from PA to CA but with an animal transporter.  Deemed stubborn, Dad was convinced it couldn’t be true. And well, Boss spent six days on the road in a trailer with other livestock before the transporter gave up on him and dropped off in Florida with family.  Next thing you know,  Josh, myself and a 12 week old Tegan flew to pick up the BOSS, previously known as Tiberius. In no time at all we were driving cross country with a drooling bear and newborn in the back of a rented minivan. But truth be told, with a little encouragement this Boss bear found his spot in all our hearts, Ralphie’s included, in an instant.  His stubborn streak still makes a sneak peak from time to time but he can most often be found laying on the floor only moving from one place to another when the tile gets warm. While Ralphie has to be in the middle of everything, Boss is content to raise his eyebrow and watch from a distance.

GoHEAD AND ASK...I KNOW YOU'RE WONDERING
HOW DID ALL THIS START?

This all started when I decided to kick Josh off our personal Instagram because I didn’t think my family would want to see puppy pictures of Ralphie everyday.  It was then that Josh started Ralphie his own IG handle:  @ralphie_the_newf.
It was like any other dog page with lots of random pictures of Ralphie.  Later that same year we got Boss, hence the name:  @ralphie_the_newf_and_the_boss.  What started out as a strictly dog page, quickly turned into a family/dog page when we began adding picture of the big furry boys with the kids and the rest is history.  We never knew that Instagram could lead us to the many opportunities it has, otherwise we would have never given it the ridiculously long name with all the underscores (our apologies LOL).  Oh, and about raisingFISHERmen, just so you know, our last name is Fisher.

And now…??

What we are believing to be, and calling the adventure of our lifetime is the result of many months in prayer asking God for direction. Knowing nothing lasts forever, and believing God gave us this unique platform, it has been a constant, sometimes frustrating prayer asking “what God?” “What do you want us to do??” Sometimes I’d find myself driving to work and then another “WHAT!?? what do you want from us?”  And here it is...There is no big master plan or huge purpose that He’s revealed to us yet...for now, we believe he is just is telling us to go. Go and take our boys, human and furry to go spread some love, some light, and some JOY.

So here we are. We sold our home and got rid of our things (that was easy). We said goodbye to our family, friends, and church (that was terribly hard). We quit our jobs and bought an RV and we’re hitting the road. This is not a trip in search of something that was missing. We already felt like we were living beyond what we deserve. This is us, following where God leads and taking this crazy, joy filled, very normal family of ours to spread some love for an entire year to ALL 50 United States.
